Bastille’s newest album is an impressive attempt at genuine alternative rock, but ultimately fails to make an impression. Each and every song blends together, leaving the listener to wonder where one ends and another begins. It came to a point where the entire album started to sound like the same song over and over again. There are however a few redeeming moments. The song “Oblivion” offers a break from the barrage of noise that covers the rest of the album and gives one a little insight on the vocal capabilities of the lead singer, Dan Smith. The lead single “Pompeii” is also mildly enjoyable. Overall I give this album a 2 out of 5 stars. I would only recommend the album to people who are into generic alternative music.
